CRICKET GLOSSARY (Trial)
The Ashes: Series between England and Australia
Asking rate: Runs needed per over to win (mostly for one day matches)
Ball: Red for 1st class and most club cricket, white for 1 day matches. It weighs 5½ ounces ( 5 ounces for women's cricket and 4¾ ounces for junior cricket)
Ball Tampering: Prohibited action of altering the condition of the ball, e.g. by scuffing the surface, picking or lifting the seam of the ball, or applying elements other than sweat or saliva
Bat-Pad Fielding position placed near the batsman to catch popped off balls from the bat or batman’s pad
Beamer A ball bowl without a bounce (usually accidentally).....it’s dangerous from a fast bowler
